The change announced this week

On 14 October 2026, CrossFit announced a new national championship pathway for 2027. Where a licensed host event exists, the route will run from the Open through Quarterfinals to that national event. The official announcement concerns the Individual Men and Women divisions. It is a new way to decide a national title, not an announcement of a Games qualification place for every national champion.

Who gets through?

Athletes seeking the title must compete in the Open and Quarterfinals and submit scores for every workout. The top ten from each country in Quarterfinals automatically qualify for their country’s host event; the remaining qualification process depends on the organizer. Citizenship matters for the title: if a noncitizen wins the host competition, the national title goes to the highest-placed citizen. Winning an event and winning that country’s title can therefore be different outcomes.

What if there is no host event?

CrossFit says the national champion will then be determined from the country’s leading Open or Quarterfinals finisher. Athletes may pursue the Games season and the national championship pathway alongside one another. The announcement does not justify assuming that your country already has an approved venue, date or registration page. Those local details still need their own confirmation.

The next date to watch

Applications from prospective hosts close on 30 October 2026. The announced event window runs from April through 31 December 2027. For an athlete, the practical next step is to follow the official season information and check whether a licensed host is announced for the relevant country. Keep the event’s qualification rules separate from travel plans until those details exist. Our account reflects the announcement available on 17 October; it does not invent a local calendar.
